Minding Your Plants & Planet

When you use Fertawool premium organic wool pellet fertilizer , you know that your plants are getting a fully organically certified fertilizer application that will maximize yields but you probably did not know that your planet is getting equally pampered.

The traditional inorganic fertilizer industry accounts for an estimated 2% of total worldwide co2 omissions annually. This is more than any other chemical industry, but that is only part of the environmental havoc caused by that industry.

On average roughly 50% of nitrogen from these inorganic fertilizers are used by the plants, the rest are broken down by soil microbes to produce nitrous oxide. Nitrous oxide is up to 300 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2.

It is not just the atmosphere that bears the brunt of the inorganic fertilizer industry. Run-off water from quick release nitrogen fertilizers causes oxygen levels to plummet in our rivers and waterways, affecting and often killing fish life. This compounds to cause dead zones in our seas and oceans, large lifeless areas caused by run-off from excess nitrogen fertilizer application.

The benefit to our planet from switching from traditional inorganic, fast release fertilizers to organic slow-release fertilizers like Fertawool is obvious and an important step to making our existence more sustainable on our planet.
